Do you know that song that Andy Williams sings at Christmas, “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”?
For graduating WSU Spokane students, today is the “most wonderful time of the year.” All that hard work, those long hours of class and study, will pay off when students walk across the stage during this afternoon’s commencement ceremony to collect their coveted diplomas.
Then what? Many students already have jobs lined up, many will begin looking for work, some will delay the job search and travel. For the College of Medicine’s graduates in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, the post-graduation employment picture is very good.
For those who attend today’s ceremony, it’s a chance to share the graduates’ joy, to meet their families and to hear words of wisdom from Interim President Dan Bernardo, WSU Spokane Chancellor Lisa Brown and the commencement speaker, Anthony Armada, CEO of Swedish Health Services in Seattle, one of the new WSU medical school’s clinical partners.
This is the crescendo of the academic year and the reminder of why most of us work in higher education. To our departing students, good luck and Godspeed!
