Internal Medicine Residency Program–Everett
Program Director welcome
The WSU Internal Medicine Residency Program — Everett is an innovative catalyst for future internal medicine physicians. We are a group of dedicated clinician educators united by a common purpose: to develop, recruit and retain internists to serve the rural and underserved communities in Washington state. The main inpatient clinical training site, Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, is uniquely positioned in an urban center with close access to many maritime and mountain rural and underserved communities in Washington. During the 2nd and 3rd years, residents rotate throughout Western Washington in these communities where they work in both inpatient and outpatient settings. These opportunities in community-based and critical access hospitals provide emergency, basic, and chronic disease management services to remote populations of Washington. They are essential to health, care, and viability of our rural and underserved communities. Collaborating with these communities is central to the mission of our program: decreasing health disparities and improving access to high value care and well-trained general internists.
Our program strives to prepare residents for the future of health care delivery through our distinctive training model. Residents spend a portion of their training each year integrated into an evolving value-based model of care focusing on care coordination, patient outcomes, caregiver satisfaction, and optimized health care for high risk populations. We seek applicants who are passionate, dedicated, and driven to improve the health of their community—particularly those with an innovative spirit who will be engaged in their learning at Washington State University. We aspire to prepare graduates to excel as physician leaders in their community and to transform health care and learning health systems in the rural and underserved communities we serve.
