Floyd College of Medicine Graduate Medical Education (GME) all accredited post-graduate medical training programs (i.e. residency or fellowship) and all  Trainees in Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine Sponsored Training Programs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Date: <\/strong>March 18, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.0 Policy Statement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the WSU College of Medicine GME policy that trainees will be provided an annual education allowance for the purpose of enhancing their learning experience. This policy establishes guidelines for the trainee\u2019s use of the annual education allowance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.0 Definitions&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>N\/A<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.0 Responsibilities&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>GMEC, DIO, Program Directors&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4.0 Procedures&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine resident physicians are provided an annual education allowance as specified below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Annual Allowance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>PGY1 &#8211; $500 plus one-time reimbursement of USLME Step 3 or COMLEX Level 3 examination fee.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;color: initial;, sans-serif\">PGY2 &#8211; $800 (in addition to USMLE Step 3 \/ COMLEX Level 3 examination fee if not used during PGY1.)<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;color: initial;, sans-serif\">PGY3 &#8211; $1,000<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PGY4 and above, including Chief Residents &#8211; $1,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Allowances <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Are in effect from July 1\u2013June 30 or the dates of the program year (PGY).\u00a0 Balances do not rollover from one program year to the next. Any unused allowance funds at the end of the resident\u2019s training are forfeited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Following Items Are Permitted Allowance Expenses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Educational conference expenses including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Conference registration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Travel expenses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lodging expenses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Food\n<ul>\n<li>Food and lodging paid up to maximum per diem rates based on WSU travel and reimbursement guidelines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Print materials including textbooks and journals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Self-study, online educational courses\/materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ABMS Specialty Board Examination Fee (up to annual allowance)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Travel support for elective away rotations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>J1 Visa (ECFMG) application fee for J1 visa renewals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expenses associated with presenting scholarly work not covered by the program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Following Items Are Not Permitted Allowance Expenses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Computers, computer equipment (i.e.: printers, scanners, etc.)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cell phones&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Furniture&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cases (i.e.: cell phone cases, laptop bags, iPad cases, etc.)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accessories (i.e.: chargers, screen protectors, etc.)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal items not related to medical education&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Attendance to an educational conference is encouraged.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All requests for reimbursement from the education allowance must be pre-approved by the Program.
