{"id":3618,"date":"2025-07-25T14:52:55","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T21:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medicine.wsu.edu\/gme\/?page_id=3618"},"modified":"2025-07-28T11:22:45","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T18:22:45","slug":"moonlighting","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/medicine.wsu.edu\/gme\/pediatric-spokane\/policies\/moonlighting\/","title":{"rendered":"Moonlighting Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Applies to:&nbsp; <\/strong>Pediatric Residency Program &#8211; Spokane faculty, staff, and residents<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Date: <\/strong>July 15, 2025\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.0 Policy Statement&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>WSU College of Medicine Pediatric Residency Program &#8211; Spokane prohibits residents from engaging in moonlighting activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.0 Definitions&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Accredits Sponsoring Institutions and residency and fellowship programs, confers recognition on additional program formats or components, and dedicates resources to initiatives addressing areas of importance in graduate medical education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Designated Institutional Official (DIO)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The individual in a sponsoring institution who has the authority and responsibility for oversight and responsibility of all the ACGME-accredited programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">External Moonlighting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Voluntary, compensated, medically-related work performed outside the institution where the Trainee is in training or at any of its related participating sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Internal Moonlighting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Voluntary, compensated, medically-related work (not related with training requirements) performed within the institution where the Trainee is in training or at any of its related participating sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moonlighting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cExtra work for extra pay\u201d voluntary, compensated, medically-related work performed beyond a Trainee\u2019s clinical experience and education hours and additional to the work required for successful completion of the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trainee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A physician in training at an ACGME accredited graduate medical education program.
