Floyd College of Medicine programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Date: <\/strong>08\/05\/2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.0 Policy Statement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the WSU College of Medicine policy that the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) applies to all applicants to college programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.0 Definitions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FERPA (20 U.S.C. \u00a7 1231g; 34CFR)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/studentprivacy.ed.gov\/ferpa\">Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act<\/a> is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Directory Information<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Information contained in a student\u2019s educational record that would not generally be considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed. <a href=\"http:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/WAC\/default.aspx?cite=504-21-050\">WAC 504-21- 050(5)<\/a> establishes what constitutes <a href=\"https:\/\/ferpa.em.wsu.edu\/directory-information\/\">directory information<\/a> at WSU.<em> &nbsp;<\/em>Includes, but not limited to: student&#8217;s name, address, telephone listing, electronic mail address, photograph, date and place of birth, major field of study, grade level, enrollment status (e.g., undergraduate or graduate, full-time or part-time), dates of attendance, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, degrees, honors, and awards received, and the most recent educational agency or institution attended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Education Record<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Records that are directly related to the student and maintained by an educational agency or institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Personally Identifiable Information<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Includes, but not limited to: student\u2019s name, name of student\u2019s parent or other family members, address of student or student\u2019s family, personal identifier (e.g., social security number, student number), other direct identifiers (e.g., date of birth, place of birth, mother\u2019s maiden name), other information that is linked or linkable to a specific student<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.0 Responsibilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Office of Student Experience (Admissions)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4.0 Procedures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>FERPA affords students certain rights with respect to their educational records. These rights are listed at <a href=\"http:\/\/ferpa.em.wsu.edu\/\">WSU FERPA \u2013 Rights and Responsibility<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FERPA applies to students who have reached 18 years of age or are attending an institution of postsecondary education. This does not include applicants to programs to which they are not yet enrolled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While FERPA does not apply to application records for those not yet enrolled in a college program, the college applies the same rights to privacy for applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Applicants may request a copy of their submitted application to college programs.
