{"id":7389,"date":"2026-02-13T12:02:45","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T20:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medicine.wsu.edu\/md\/?page_id=7389"},"modified":"2026-02-13T12:05:32","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T20:05:32","slug":"application-planning-worksheet","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/medicine.wsu.edu\/md\/apply\/requirements\/application-planning-worksheet\/","title":{"rendered":"MD Application Planning Worksheet"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requirements to Receive a Secondary Application<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">(there are no exceptions to these requirements)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>US Citizen or US permanent resident<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ties to Washington<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Regardless of the identified state of residency on AMCAS, you meet this requirement if you have at least 3 of these 4 ties to Washington:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Born in Washington<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Childhood address in Washington<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Graduated from a Washington high school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parent\/guardian currently lives in Washington<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\"><strong>Beginning Entering Year 2027,<\/strong> the following change to the Washington tie of childhood address in Washington will be implemented:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Childhood Address in Washington<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Once we receive the AMCAS application, applicants will be asked to provide any childhood home addresses in Washington to further support this tie. The following criteria will be used:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Between 8\u201318 years of age<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum of 6 years (does not need to be continuous)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Academic Metrics<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Applicants must meet one of the following undergraduate (UG) cumulative grade point average (GPA) and Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) score combination thresholds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>If UG cumulative GPA is 3.8 \u2013 4.0, then MCAT score must be 27th percentile rank or higher<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If UG cumulative GPA is 3.4 \u2013 3.79, then MCAT score must be 43rd percentile rank or higher<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If UG cumulative GPA is 2.6 \u2013 3.39, then MCAT score must be 61st percentile rank or higher<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All required letters of recommendation have been received from AMCAS (3 individual letters or Health Professions Advisory Committee packet)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requirements to Matriculate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants must have earned a bachelor\u2019s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university in the United States or Canada by July 15 of the year they will begin medical school.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If an applicant does not have a bachelor\u2019s degree because they enrolled in a doctoral-level (terminal degree) program from a US accredited institution that did not require a bachelor\u2019s degree for entrance, they may apply if they have earned the doctoral degree by July 15 of the year they will begin medical school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--default\">Satisfactory completion of the following <strong>REQUIRED <\/strong>college courses, <strong>with any level of C <\/strong>or <strong>better<\/strong>. Pass\/Fail is accepted if taken in the calendar year 2020 through 2022.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Courses <strong>must<\/strong> include a lab. The science courses should be specified for science majors and courses must be completed before July 15 of the year of matriculation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Organic chemistry w\/lab: 4 semester hours <\/strong>(or 6 quarter hours)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Physics w\/lab: 4 semester hours <\/strong>(or 6 quarter hours)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Biology w\/lab: 4 semester hours <\/strong>(or 6 quarter hours (Preferred focus: genetics, molecular biology)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(Genetics, anatomy or comparative anatomy, and human or mammalian physiology all could meet the biology requirement as long as they have a lab.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AP, CLEP, and IB credits that were acceptable to an applicant\u2019s undergraduate institution may be used to satisfy prerequisite courses and must be documented on their official transcript.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Highly Recommended Course<\/th><th>CR HRS<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Humanities (Literature, art, music, or history)<\/td><td>4<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">College English<\/td><td>3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">College Mathematics<\/td><td>3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Sociology<\/td><td>3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Human Development\/Embryology<\/td><td>3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Ethics<\/td><td>3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Foreign language (Preferred focus: Spanish, intermediate verbal proficiency)<\/td><td>3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Genetics<\/td><td>3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Anatomy or comparative anatomy<\/td><td>3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Statistics<\/td><td>3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Research courses or data management<\/td><td>3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Psychology<\/td><td>1 or more<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Human or mammalian physiology<\/td><td>1 or more<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I Have Examples to Support the Following Life Experiences in My Application<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Experience with rural and\/or underserved communities and populations: <\/strong>You have experiences to understand the unique challenges and opportunities in rural environments and\/or underserved communities and populations. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clinical exposure: <\/strong>You have experiences in some of the following areas: shadowing, scribe, care provider within your family, emergency medical technician, other.
