The nervous system, which can sense many types of environmental stimuli, may help integrate information to activate behavioral and molecular immune defenses. This general control of immune pathways is crucial for the homeostasis of the organisms because the activation of the immune system accounts for the major physiological, metabolic, and pathological responses to infections.
