PBS highlighted ongoing research at Washington State University about Alzheimer’s disease in American Indian and Alaska Native (AI\/AN) populations in a December 8 episode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project, led by WSU faculty Amanda Boyd, PhD, and Cole Allick, PhD, MHA, in collaboration with researchers at the University of Washington, aims to boost AI\/AN participation in Alzheimer’s research, rebuilding trust and ultimately helping address disparities in rates of Alzheimer’s disease to achieve better health outcomes. The work is supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boyd is co-director of the Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH) and professor in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. She also leads WSU’s Native American Programs and the Center for Native American Research and Collaborations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Allick is an IREACH faculty member and assistant professor of public health in the Paul G. Allen School for Global Health at the College of Veterinary Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
