Research Areas

Core interest areas include cost awareness among physicians, social constraints upon healthcare access, and the use of the humanities in the teaching of medicine and professionalism. He is currently Principal Investigator on a series of studies of the effects of Medical Humanities curricula upon clinical empathy among medical trainees.

Additional Information

Graham practiced in the Indian Health Service and later was the sole internist and hospitalist for a large Federally Qualified Health Center, or FQHC. In 2008, he joined the residency faculty at Internal Medicine Residency Spokane (now a part of the WSU-sponsored Spokane Teaching Health Center). He has twice received the Richard Tucker Internal Medicine Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award, and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha in 2012. In 2014 and 2015, he was a visiting professor at Myungsung Medical College in Ethiopia. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and Fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology. He is a deputy editor of the Journal of General Internal Medicine.
