Dr. Bering started her medical career as an obstetrician gynecologist in Spokane in 1982. As an OB/GYN, she was active in teaching the Family Medicine residents during their OB rotation. She retired from Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1999 but remained active teaching Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Transitional residents.

In the early 2000’s, she became interested in the newly emerging field of palliative medicine. She started the first palliative medicine consult service in eastern Washington at Deaconess Medical Center and she was the medical director there from 2006 through 2011.

At the end of 2011, she moved to Kootenai Health in Couer d’Alene, Idaho, where she served as the medical director of the inpatient palliative care consult service until July, 2017.

She has served as the acting medical director of Hospice of Spokane and she currently serves as an associate medical director for that group. She has been teaching University of Washington medical students on their palliative care rotation since 2006. She became board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine in 2008.
