Additional Information

Dr. Hecker is a Washington native and spent her youth in Tumwater. Upon completion of her internal medicine residency, she relocated to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho where she worked as an adult hospitalist at Kootenai Health, later serving as the hospitalist group’s medical director. Seeking a slower pace after the birth of her daughter, Dr. Hecker worked as an outpatient internist with Group Health Physicians at Northside Internal Medicine. She followed her particular fondness for geriatric care and later transitioned her practice to Alderwood Manor Skilled Nursing Facility, where she served as both the full time, in-house physician and medical director. She currently practices as a nursing home specialist at Providence St. Joseph Care Center.

Dr. Hecker will be instructing first- and second-year medical students in the Art and Practice of Medicine course. Her previous teaching experience includes serving as a volunteer clinical preceptor for third-year University of Washington medical students, as well as PA students with the University of Washington MEDEX program.

Dr. Hecker enjoys writing, with a particular interest in the patient-physician relationship. She was the community physician winner of the 2015 Spokane Community Physician Essay Contest and has published multiple commentaries on the social media website, KevinMD.

Dr. Hecker currently resides in Cheney with her husband, daughter, an orthopedically challenged Labrador Retriever and six plucky chickens.
