Biography
What inspired you to pursue medicine?
Growing up in an immigrant family in the US, I had always appreciated the people who took time to get to know me and those who helped me navigate this new world of American culture. Once I started college, I considered a few career options. Ultimately, I saw medicine as the perfect opportunity to combine my interest in human health and biology with my passion for teaching, while also paying it forward. It’s been a privilege to work with medical trainees and patients alike as they journey through our complex system of US healthcare.
What are your passions and hobbies outside of work?
Using social media to teach about medical education (you can find me @YihanYangMD on Twitter), spending time with my husband and daughter, trying out new restaurants, watching all the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, learning how to garden and kayak.
What would you do if you hadn’t pursued medicine?
I would maybe have become a science teacher or a graphic designer.
