Expectations for AI use will be clearly outlined in the course syllabus and\/or individual assignment instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI use is <strong>not permitted for quizzes or exams<\/strong> unless explicitly stated by the instructor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI must not be used to generate or complete assignments <strong>unless explicitly allowed by the instructor as outlined in the course syllabus<\/strong>. When permitted, students are expected to follow all instructor guidelines regarding appropriate use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a violation of <strong>HIPAA\/FERPA<\/strong> to input any private or identifiable information about students, faculty\/staff, or clients into AI tools. This can include case information from clinical or classroom settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Student Responsibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Students are responsible for ensuring that any submitted work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Reflects their own understanding and thinking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accurately represents course concepts and terminology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meets the expectations outlined by the instructor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are expected to critically evaluate any AI-generated content for accuracy and appropriateness before including it in their work.&nbsp; Use of AI does not replace responsibility for the quality, accuracy, or integrity of submitted work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Transparency and Attribution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When AI use is permitted, instructors may require an AI Use Statement or reflection describing how the tool was used and how the final work reflects the student\u2019s own thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many courses will use a structured AI Use Scale (e.g., No AI, AI Planning, AI Collaboration, Full AI, AI Exploration) to clarify expectations for each assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Failure to follow instructor expectations for AI use may be considered a violation of academic integrity policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Appropriate vs. Inappropriate Use (General Guidance)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Even when AI use is allowed, students should understand that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Appropriate uses may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Brainstorming or organizing ideas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Revising writing for clarity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generating practice materials for studying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Inappropriate uses include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Submitting AI-generated work as your own<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using AI to complete skill-based or graded analytical tasks unless explicitly permitted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Relying on AI to make clinical, academic, or professional judgments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Misuse of AI, including submitting AI-generated work as one\u2019s own when not permitted, may be considered a violation of academic integrity policies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When in Doubt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">If you are unsure whether a specific use of AI is appropriate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Review the assignment instructions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask your instructor before submitting your work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Consequences<\/strong> Violation of the SHS AI policy will result in submission of an Academic Integrity violation to the Office of Community Standards as outlined in <a href=\"https:\/\/provost.wsu.edu\/policies\/artificial_intelligence\/detecting-and-reporting-misconduct\/\">University policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Student-Facing AI Use Policy Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI; e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) use is at the discretion of the instructor of record for each course.
