The Master of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences (MS SHS) degree program with specialization in speech-language pathology is a two-year program based at the WSU Health Sciences Spokane campus. It requires 68\u201372 credits and includes a summer session. In addition to academic coursework, students gain experience through clinical training, community outreach and opportunities to work with well-known scholars on current research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduate students are trained to meet the diagnostic and therapy needs of adults and children with a wide variety of speech, language, voice, swallowing, and hearing difficulties. Students begin their training in the WSU Health Speech-Language Pathology Clinic<\/a>, which serves as a health care option for individuals with communication disorders in the Spokane community. We also collaborate with dedicated and accomplished clinicians in the Spokane community and across the Northwest region who support our off-site clinical education program and help our students become independent practitioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduates with a master\u2019s degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences typically work as speech-language pathologists in hospitals, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation settings, early intervention settings, public schools and in private practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apply<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Applications are processed by the Speech and Hearing Faculty and WSU Graduate School. The process includes: Application and Transcripts; Personal Statement; Letters of Recommendation; resume; and possible interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applications for admission and supporting materials are submitted online through CSDCAS. There is an application fee. Deadline is January 15 prior to the start of fall semester. Note: Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be sent from the attended college\/university to the WSU Graduate School.<\/p>\n\n\n

It also is recognized at the state level by the Washington State Board of Education. The program provides the basis for certification in speech-language pathology by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the certificate of clinical competence, and for state licensure.<\/p>\n\n\n
