Residents and Faculty Shine at Internal Medicine Annual Meeting

WSU faculty and residents attend SGIM conference

Residents and faculty from the WSU College of Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency Program in Everett were showcased via multiple posters, oral presentations, and workshops at the highly competitive Society of General Internal Medicine annual meeting in Boston. The conference was attended by approximately 2700 clinicians.

The list of presentations and leadership roles by WSU colleagues represents an incredible level of engagement and highlights the College of Medicine’s growing national reputation.

  • Dawn DeWitt, MD, MSc, CMedEd, MACP, FRACP, FRCP-London, represented the WSU HS interprofessional opioid education team with an oral presentation on interprofessional competency achievement by students and presented a poster on interprofessional assessment of clerkship students (co-authored by Skye McKennon, PharmD, BCPS, and Dawn Cooper, PhD).
  • Sujan Badal, MD, was awarded a SGIM National Young Scholars award to attend the meeting.
  • Wagma Nizami, MD, and Sujan Badal, MD, presented a case of a lethal medication side effect.
  • Tony Huynh, DO, presented a case series on prostate cancer presenting as peritoneal carcinomatosis.
  • Katie Miotke, DO, presented a case of refractory shock.
  • Mariam Alamgir, MD, MBA, presented a case of drug resistant H pylori.
  • Tess King, MD, MPH, presented research on the challenges of selecting internal medicine chief residents.
  • Delaney Goulet, MD, co-chaired the SGIM National meeting’s mentorship sessions, which included planning multiple career panels across the spectrum of GIM. She served as a panelist for the Parenting Peer Mentoring session.
  • Yihan Yang, MD, MHS-MedEd, was a panelist for the Junior Clinician Educator Peer Mentorship session and presented workshops on Updates in Medical Education and Evidence Based Ambulatory Teaching Practices.
