WSU Chapter of APAMSA Organizes Free Health Screenings

WSU medical students partner with CHAS Health to offer health screenings

In collaboration with Range Community Clinic and CHAS Health, the Washington State University Chapter of the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) recently organized a health fair for the Marshallese community in Spokane.

Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine students provided free health screenings, including blood pressure and HbA1c, during the Marshallese Jemenei (Constitution) Day celebration at Chief Garry Park. They would like to thank the Community Engagement Fellowship Program, ASWSUHS Senate, APAMSA, and Northwest Dermatology for their support of this event.

This group of medical students is also planning to revitalize the Community Health Interest Group by working with various underserved populations next year. They have been working on starting a program through which medical students can volunteer with CHAS Health at Thrive International to assist with primary care services. With the support from Range Community Health and CHAS Health, they are looking forward to focusing on health equity through community outreach projects and utilization of mobile clinics.
