MD Student Finds Love of Discovery During Summer Research

Darin Chhing, MD class of 2026, in the lab

Medical students at the WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine complete a scholarly project as part of their curriculum. This summer, third-year student Darin Chhing traveled to a lab in Boston to collaborate with scientists at Mass Eye and Ear for his Med Scholar course.

Chhing reports that he not only found a love of discovery, but his findings have been accepted for presentation at the 2024 American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Annual Meeting in Chicago. His research highlights the potential of a novel Rho-Kinase Inhibitor in the treatment of proliferative vitreoretinopathy.

Chhing will present his research at the AAO Annual Meeting in October.
