VCC Mobile Simulation Unit in Action for Emergency Obstetrics Course in Pullman

WSU's VCC Mobile Simulation Unit in Pullman

The WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine and the Virtual Clinical Center’s mobile simulation unit were excited to sponsor the first American Academy of Family Physicians’ Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics course at Pullman Regional Hospital. The course specifically uses an interdisciplinary evidence-based approach to improve maternal and infant outcomes.

Learners from the WSU Medicine Family Medicine Residency program experienced an all-day intensive simulation-based skills session focusing on a wide range of obstetrical emergencies.

According to the Washington Department of Health, Washington’s maternal mortality rates are stable and have historically been lower than the national average. However, there are disparities by race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and urban/rural status. The 2023 Maternal Mortality Review Panel (MMRP) Report suggests that 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable.
