Master of Healthcare Administration and Leadership (MHAL) International Student Admission

1.0 Policy Statement

Washington State University’s Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (COM) Master of Healthcare Administration and Leadership (MHAL) program seeks to allow a diverse group of students to participate in this degree and certificate program. The international student admissions policy is in place to provide those who reside outside of the United States or who have a degree granted by an institution of higher learning outside of the United States to apply to MHAL. The policies are established as follows:

  • 1.1 Students that are US Citizens or Green Card holders, but earned their degree abroad will need to have their transcripts evaluated. WSU’s International Program can provide this service. Non-U.S. Citizens and non-Green Card holders will also be able to pursue this program so long as they are not residing in the United States. Non-U.S. Citizens and non-Green Card holders will also need to have their transcript evaluated.
  • 1.2 All documentation submitted by the applicant must be in English or official translations into English accompanied by the original foreign language document. International Programs is also able to provide translation services for the documents.
  • 1.3 This program is asynchronous; therefore, an I-20 visa issuance will not be given.

2.0 Waivers

English language Proficiency (ELP) waivers

Those applicants with an H1B, J-1 Residents or MD’s applying to the program may be eligible for an ELP waiver. Prospective international applicants must meet any of the following options as evidence of English language proficiency:

  • Option A: Hold a baccalaureate or graduate degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution.
  • Option B: Hold citizenship or a baccalaureate or graduate degree from an institution in any of the following countries: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Overseas Territories, British Virgin Islands, Botswana, Cameroon, Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Montserrat, Nigeria, New Zealand, Rwanda, Saint Lucia, Saint Christopher and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Singapore, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Uganda, or the United Kingdom.
  • Option C: Graduated with a baccalaureate-level or higher degree from a college or university outside the United States where the language of instruction was English (provide an official letter or transcript from the school stating English was the language of instruction).
  • Option D: Graduated with a medical degree and is certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or have completed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Steps 1 and 2.

Applicants who do not meet any of the options detailed above must earn the following minimum English language proficiency exam scores.

Application

Students are required to complete an application to the MHAL program or related Certificates. Each application will be reviewed by the MHAL Admissions Committee and students will be notified via email of acceptance or rejection to the program.
