Jeff Haney, MD serves as Senior Vice Provost for Health Sciences at Washington State University and Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. In his role, he provides leadership for WSU’s statewide health sciences enterprise and works collaboratively with academic, clinical, research, and community partners to advance health professions education, research, and service throughout Washington.

A proud Coug, Dr. Haney earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Washington State University and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Washington. He completed the Sutter Santa Rosa/UCSF Family Medicine Residency and subsequently completed both the UCSF/Northern California Faculty Development Fellowship and the National Institute for Program Director Development Fellowship. He is a board-certified family physician.

Before joining WSU, Dr. Haney served as faculty member, program director, and designated institutional official for the Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Program, a partnership between Sutter Health and the University of California San Francisco. Since joining the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine in 2017, he has held several leadership roles, including Clinical Education Director for Family Medicine, Chair of the Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences, and Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs, helping shape the educational foundation of WSU’s medical school from its earliest years.

National, State, and Local Leadership Roles: Dr. Haney has current and past leadership roles within the following professional societies/boards: Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, Association of Departments of Family Medicine, Washington Academy of Family Physicians, Washington Family Medicine Education Advisory Board, Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors, California Academy of Family Physicians, California Residency Network, and Sonoma County Health Action (not complete, but primary examples).

Presentations: Frequent peer reviewed and invited presentations for faculty development and content expertise across the country.

Work Passions: Primary care as a means of foundation building for a healthy health system, joyful practice of medicine, health equity and elimination of health disparities in our communities across the state, leadership development, faculty development..

Outside of Work: Cooking, gardening and spending as much time engaging in outdoor activities as possible.
