Research

Dr. Cabbage’s research interests center on the connections between early speech and language skills and later literacy acquisition. She is particularly interested in improving both the clinical identification and treatment of children with speech sound disorders and/or language impairment who are most at risk for reading difficulty. Owing to her background as a school-based speech-language pathologist, she is passionate about conducting clinically-applicable research that provides practical solutions to real-world problems, particularly in school-based settings. She teaches coursework on child language development/intervention, language and literacy, and speech sound disorders.
