Experience

She is a licensed clinical psychologist and is Board Certified in Clinical Neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. Prior to becoming a founding faculty member in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine in 2015, she was a practicing clinical neuropsychologist and faculty in the departments of Neurology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UW Medicine.

Research

Her current research is focused on with the neuropsychology of type 1 diabetes, including 1) glycemic variability and cognitive performance, 2) diabetes-related and other risk factors for cognitive decline and dementia, and 3) cognitive, quality of life and emotional correlates of medical technology use in older adults (e.g., artificial pancreas, continuous glucose monitoring). 

In addition, she is interested in the use of cognition as a mediator/moderator of outcomes in clinical trials and the use of smartphones to collect neuropsychological data in clinical research. Previous work has included projects evaluating the validity of mobile cognitive assessment, testing the effectiveness of depression treatments in adults with epilepsy, characterizing neuropsychological and emotional functioning in epilepsy and psychogenic nonepileptic events, and improving neuropsychological prediction of real-world outcomes (i.e., ecological validity).

Additional Info

For the MD program, Dr. Chaytor serves in the following roles; small group advisor and component contributer for  MEDSCHLR; Nervous System and Behavioral Health component contributor; member of the Foundations of Medicine Subcommittee. She also supervises medical student research projects and Clinical Psychology graduate students.
