College of Medicine to host CLIC conference in 2023

A team led by Dr. Dawn DeWitt and the Collaboration for InterProfessional Health Education Research & Scholarship (CIPHERS) was awarded the 2023 international Consortium of Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (CLIC) meeting. This will be held in late September of 2023, with the potential for an additional online conference day.

“CLIC is a group of incredible innovators in medical education and this is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our work and mission, plus we hope it will engage all the amazing faculty involved in starting and supporting the College of Medicine’s Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC),” says Dr. DeWitt.

“It’s one of the most fun and reinvigorating conferences I get to attend—they’ve been held in Australia, South Africa, Canada (most recently Vancouver), San Francisco (UCSF) and Big Sky (UW). It will be great to host it here in Spokane. The conference usually includes a 2-3 day pre-conference bus trip that includes site visits and local experiences to highlight community partnerships,” she said.

Dr. DeWitt has been involved in LICs at four medical schools since 1994 and in CLIC for over 15 years, but she notes that we have one of the first “all-in” LICs.  She says that most schools have either pilot LICs or dual tracks with a limited number of LIC spots, so this is a great opportunity for the college to lead the debate on whether more medical schools should move to this model.

More information on CLIC can be found on their website. Anyone interested in helping with the meeting or submitting abstracts can contact Dawn DeWitt dawn.dewitt@wsu.edu or CIPHERS medicine.ciphers@wsu.edu.
