Dawn DeWitt, MD, a professor in the Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences at the WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, has been appointed to the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) foundational sciences committee for a three-year term. She previously served as a committee member and later as chair of the Step 3 chronic illness committee.

“This work is incredibly rewarding intellectually. The knowledge needed to pass ‘board’ exams has been controversial over the years,” Dr. DeWitt said. “Working on this national committee will give me a chance to think about the foundational medical knowledge needed by learners we go forward in an era of rapidly increasing use of artificial intelligence and consider the most appropriate questions for these national examinations.”
