The quality of health information on TikTok leaves something to be desired, confirms new research by WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine MD student Likai Chen and graduates Carter Wolf, MD, and Britta Black, MD.
Published in Contraception, their study of popular videos about the brand-name birth control shot found TikToks often contain non-medical professionals sharing negative personal experiences that could influence viewers’ perceptions about the shot.
The research was conducted in collaboration with Vice Chair for Obstetrics and Gynecology Dawn Kopp, MD, MPH.
