Outlook online archiving frequency for Washington State University student and shared mailboxes is reducing from six months to four weeks, effective Wednesday, March 25.
With students’ Outlook storage limits decreasing to 1 GB on April 15, Information Technology Services (ITS) will update the online archiving timeframe to support storage management. Moving content to the archive more frequently will help reduce mailbox storage pressure and limit the need for manual cleanup.
WSU faculty and staff mailboxes will continue to follow the six‑month archiving schedule and are not impacted by this update.
Outlook may take up to 30 days to complete the first archiving process once the four‑week archiving timeframe for student and shared mailboxes is implemented.
This change will help improve mailbox storage management and preserve space in the primary mailbox under the new Outlook storage allocations.
The online archiving process and access to archived items will remain unchanged. Items will continue to be archived automatically each day, and all existing data will be retained.
Please review the WSU Email Online Archive resource page for guidance on accessing or searching the online archive.
