Several Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine students presented work at the recent Associated Professional Sleep Societies (APSS) meeting in Seattle, Washington. The premier national meeting, known by attendees as “SLEEP,” brings together thousands of clinicians and researchers from across the globe.
The following medical students presented with WSU College of Medicine Assistant Professor Devon Hansen, PhD, as co-author:

- Delaney Miller (MS3), “Sleep Interrupted: Exploring the Effects of Total Sleep Deprivation on Chronic Insomnia through Polysomnography“
- Lauren “LuLu” Duffy (MS3), “Steady Hearts, Sleepless Minds: Analyzing Heart Rate Variability in Individuals with Chronic Insomnia“
- Natalie Williams (MS3), “Substantial Maternal Sleep Disruption as a Potential Mediator or Increased Health Risk in the First Postpartum Week“
Several graduate students also presented at the conference:
- PhD candidate Elizabeth Medina, a member of the Peixoto Lab, was an invited speaker for symposium “The Need for Sleep in Shaping the Developing Social Brain Across Sexes.”
- PhD student Caitlin Ottaway presented “Transcriptional Dynamics of Sleep Deprivation and Subsequent Recovery Sleep in the Male Mouse Cortex” with College of Medicine Associate Professor Lucia Peixoto, PhD, as co-author.
