Dr. Sara Parent is an Assistant Professor in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine’s Department of Community and Behavioral Health at Washington State University. Her work focuses on research, dissemination, and training for Contingency Management (CM), a behavioral intervention for substance use disorders. During the time she managed a large CM clinical trial, she conducted or supervised over 1000 CM visits with people experiencing alcohol use disorders and co-occurring serious mental illnesses. Since then, she has focused her efforts on developing and delivering CM training and technical assistance (TTA), primarily focused on CM to treat stimulant use disorder. She has played an important role in statewide CM rollouts in Washington and Montana, supports CM TTA in partnership with American Indian/Alaska Native communities, and is a consultant for California’s Recovery Incentives CM program, the first Medicaid-funded CM mechanism. She has delivered more than 30 CM educational presentations or training seminars for regional, national, and international audiences, and provides monthly CM coaching to over 100 treatment or healthcare service locations throughout the United States. She has co-developed extensive CM training resources, including electronic tools for facilitating CM delivery and fidelity, and has served on two national expert panels focusing on contingency management TTA. Dr. Parent strives to improve the availability of high-quality CM through effective training and implementation problem-solving.
