William Douglas Hiller, MD, a community faculty member at the WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who as a distinguished leader in his field. The biographical publisher selects a small percentage of listees for the recognition.
“We laud these individuals for their ambition, professional fortitude, industry contributions, and career accomplishments,” a Wall Street Journal announcement noted.
Dr. Hiller has been a Marquis listee since April 2025 and in June received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his career as an orthopedic surgeon. He practices at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, WA.
In addition to supervising future physicians during their training, Dr. Hiller is an avid athlete and exercise physiology researcher who serves as official curator of all medical data for World Triathlon and IRONMAN. Recently, Dr. Hiller and his collaborator Chris Connolly, PhD, found that dehydration, rather than electrolyte imbalance, is linked to muscle cramps in IRONMAN triathletes.
Dr. Hiller has also served as medical delegate for multiple Olympics and Paralympics, providing specialized on-site care for athletes.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Hiller on this well-deserved recognition!
