The second-annual Dr. Joel DeLisa Endowed Lectureship in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) will feature guest speaker Sabrina Paganoni, MD, PhD, an associate professor of PM&R at Harvard Medical School and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and an internationally recognized ALS researcher.
All members of the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine community and our partners are invited to attend her lecture “Driving Progress in ALS Care and Research through Collaboration and Innovation,” which will be held at noon on March 20 at Providence St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Medical Center, Room 200, in Spokane, with a virtual attendance option. RSVP online to confirm your attendance.
Dr. Paganoni is the co-director of the Neurological Research Institute at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Robert H. Brown, Jr., PhilD, MD Endowed Chair in Neurology. She serves as the principal investigator of several ALS clinical trials, including co-PI of the HEALEY ALS Platform Trial, and has pioneered novel trial designs and partnership models.
Each year, the Dr. Joel DeLisa PM&R Endowed Lectureship features a distinguished speaker sharing insights at the forefront of the field. The inaugural lecture was given by Steven Kirshblum, MD, chief medical officer for Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
The lectureship is made possible by the generosity of WSU alumni Joel DeLisa, MD, and Janet Hopper DeLisa, who established the Dr. Joel DeLisa Endowed Lectureship and Continuing Education Fund in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at WSU in 2024. The fund aims to advance knowledge in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation for students, residents, and practitioners in Spokane and beyond.
Dr. and Mrs. DeLisa are both 1964 WSU graduates. Dr. De Lisa is the founding director of Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Center and author of the internationally recognized textbook DeLisa’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: Principles and Practice, now in its sixth edition.
