This session is intended for College of Medicine faculty and staff only.
This faculty development session, presented by Susan Hecker, MD, FACP and Mary Lacy, MD, FACP, FHM, is designed to help medical school teaching faculty navigate one of the most challenging aspects of clinical education: giving honest, growth-oriented feedback while maintaining a respectful learning environment. Participants will explore how to distinguish appropriate, even uncomfortable, performance conversations from behaviors that learners may experience as humiliating, punitive, or harmful. Through practical examples and reflective discussion, faculty will strengthen their skills in delivering clear, effective feedback, recognizing the impact of tone and context, and fostering psychologically safe learning spaces that support both accountability and learner well-being.
