First MD Graduates Fulfill Mission to Serve Washington Communities as Doctors

Most of the college’s inaugural class are choosing to practice in Washington as they complete their post-graduate training in residencies across the country and decide where to go as fully qualified physicians.

College Joins National Program to Support Indigenous-Led Research

The WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine was awarded approximately $2.2 million in first-year project funding to participate in a new National Institutes of Health program designed to support Indigenous communities in leading culturally grounded research on substance use and pain.

New Clinic Improves Access to Care for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

In its first year of operation, the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences Autism and Neurodevelopmental Clinic has improved access to timely and high-quality care for eastern Washington children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families.

College Receives National Award for Excellence in Diversity

The college has received the 2024 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine, a national honor recognizing institutions that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Providence and WSU Start New Pediatric Residency in Spokane

Providence and WSU today announced a partnership to establish eastern Washington’s first pediatric medical residency. The program promises to foster aspiring physicians and improve the depth and breadth of children’s health care in the Inland Northwest.

WSU Family Medicine Residency Center Unveiled 

Dozens of university leaders, health care personnel, and community members gathered Thursday for the unveiling of the future home of a new Family Medicine Residency program within Pullman Regional Hospital. Approximately 5,000 square feet of space within the hospital was remodeled to accommodate the new residency program.

College of Medicine Granted Full Accreditation 

The WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine has received full accreditation, the final milestone in an accreditation journey that has spanned nearly six years. The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) granted full accreditation after a rigorous evaluation.

The Family Medicine Residency Program-Pullman is a three-year residency training program focused in a critical-access hospital in which physician residents will have opportunities to experience the full range of family medicine practice.

Patients and community members across the state will see some new faces in white coats as the inaugural class of medical students from the WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine begin their clinical training.

The college was recognized for its innovative approach to medical education with its designation as an Apple Distinguished School. The designation is granted to institutions that showcase innovative uses of technology in learning, teaching, and the school environment and have documented results of academic accomplishment.

First WSU Residency Program Welcomes Inaugural Class

As WSU medical students tore open their virtual Match Day envelopes today to learn where they matched for residency, the Internal Medicine Residency Program–Everett simultaneously learned which 16 individuals from across the country will form its inaugural class.

WSU College of Medicine Research Sparks Entrepreneurship 

The college is best known for its students in white medical coats, but the white coated scientists experimenting in labs, collecting data in clinics and hospitals, and analyzing data on computers may be the college’s biggest economic output until its students begin practicing medicine.

WSU has embarked on one of its most ambitious expansions. The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine is carving out its physician-training niche by emphasizing innovation, technology, and the importance of bringing high-quality care to some of the state’s most underserved regions.

College of Medicine Incorporates Nutrition, Exercise Physiology Training

The Nutrition and Exercise Physiology program at WSU Spokane has been named as an academic department and incorporated into the College of Medicine, reflecting the college’s goals to be one of the first medical schools in the nation to take a holistic approach to health and wellness.

WSU today announced the creation of the Dr. Elson S. Floyd Medical Education Founders Fund to honor the university’s late president, who died Saturday morning after his battle with cancer.

Gov. Jay Inslee Signs WSU Medical School Legislation

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee today signed into law a bill that gives Washington State University the authority to create an independently accredited medical school in Spokane. House Bill 1559 amends a 98-year-old state statute that gave exclusive rights to provide medical education to the University of Washington.
