Faculty Council

Faculty Council

The Faculty Council is the legislative body of the college. The Faculty Council is the steward of the college bylaws. The Faculty Council is responsible for reviewing and revising the bylaws, when needed.

The Faculty Council holds at least one meeting, annually. The Faculty Council conducts annual elections for standing committees and for senators who represent the college to the university.

Faculty Council Executive Committee

The Faculty Council Executive Committee (FCEC) serves as a liaison between the faculty and administration. The administration includes the Dean, Vice Deans, Associate and Assistant Deans, and the Dean’s College Executive Cabinet.

The Faculty Council Executive Committee ensures transparency of the governance activities of the entities listed in the bylaws. They do this by providing the faculty at large with committee rosters, terms of reference, agendas and minutes.

The FCEC consists of two representatives from each department, as well as one member at large.

The chair of the FCEC is the Chair of the Faculty Council, and the Faculty Representative to the Deans Executive Cabinet. At Commencement, the Chair of the Faculty Council is the Bearer of the Mace, and Leader of the Faculty Processional and Recessional.

Dean’s College Executive Cabinet

Although not part of the Faculty Council, the Dean’s College Executive Cabinet (herein referred to as the Dean’s Cabinet) is an entity listed in the bylaws of the College of Medicine. Any changes to the functions or the composition of the Dean’s Cabinet would require a bylaws amendment passed by the Faculty Council. In addition, the Dean’s Cabinet provides reports to the annual meetings of the Faculty Council on all policy and procedural changes, and on all issues that require a vote of the full faculty.
