Harneet Sangha, a second-year medical student at the WSU College of Medicine, recently presented four posters at the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) Conference in Philadelphia. One poster entitled “Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Diagnosis of a Rare Cecal/Appendiceal Subepithelial Lesion: An Intramural Pseudocyst” was selected as a Presidential Poster Award recipient.
The ACG Educational Affairs Committee reviewed almost 6,000 abstracts and felt that Sangha’s poster deserved the special recognition. Approximately 5% of accepted abstracts annually receive this distinction for high quality, novel, unique, or interesting research.
Sangha’s work was done under the guidance of Mohit Girotra, MD, an associate professor at the WSU College of Medicine and a board-certified gastroenterologist at Swedish Digestive Health.
“Dr. Girotra’s guidance and mentorship have been extremely valuable to my learning and growing experience as a future physician and individual,” said Sangha. “This experience would not have been possible without him.”
Also at the conference, Sangha connected with WSU alum Pierce Claassen, MD, who was also presenting. Claassen is a first-year resident physician in the Mayo Clinic’s Internal Medicine Residency Program.

“I would also like to thank Dr. Claassen for his mentorship and the valuable time he dedicated to introducing me to key individuals, sharing insights on the latest advancements in GI technology, and guiding me on how to deliver impactful presentations,” Sangha said. “This experience was definitely enhanced having a Coug Doc that has done it in the past.”
