MD Student Artwork Headlines National Orthopedic Conference
Artwork by WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine student Julia Todderud was selected to represent the 2025 Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS) Annual Meeting, highlighting the intersection of medicine and art.
“I loved this opportunity to combine my arts background and passion with my love for orthopedics to support the RJOS mission of promoting women in the field,” said the third-year medical student.
RJOS supports the professional development of women in orthopedics, a field where only 7% of practicing orthopedic surgeons are women. The theme of this year’s conference, taking place on March 14 in San Diego, California, is “Celebrating Excellence.”
Todderud received a scholarship to attend the RJOS meeting, where she will also serve as West Region Representative for the Medical Student Chapter Leadership. She also received this scholarship to make several research presentations and attend the annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
“Julia chose to illustrate the impact of sexism in medicine through painting and fine art, and to see that passion continue to find a home in her future career is incredible,” said Vancouver Regional Dean Judi Marcin, MD, MFA, who supervised Julia’s MedScholar project in the medical humanities.
