MSN Highlights SPRC Study on New Moms’ Sleep Loss

Person trying to sleep

A recent MSN article highlighted new research from WSU’s Sleep and Performance Research Center in collaboration with Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

The study found that new mothers sleep an average of 4.4 hours a night during the first week after birth. While sleep duration increased in the following weeks to 7.3 hours nightly, the stretches of uninterrupted sleep remained scarce, with the longest stretch increasing from 3.2 hours to just 4.1 hours, a novel finding.

Department of Translational Medicine and Physiology faculty Devon Hansen, PhD, LMHC, and Hans Van Dongen, PhD, contributed to the study.
