Headings help organize content and allow users to quickly navigate a document. Use built-in header formatting in Word to make your headings accessible to everyone.

Why can’t I just use large bold text to mark a header?
While increasing font size and using bolding makes your text more visible, it doesn’t change the structure of the document. Screen readers use the document’s structure, including header styles, to help users navigate to different sections of the document. Also, if styles are used correctly, they’re easier and faster to use than manually increasing font size and bolding.
