Leila Harrison

The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine’s Leila Harrison, PhD, MA, MEd, will serve as the inaugural chair of the Association of American Medical College’s (AAMC) Recruitment, Admissions, Selection, and Enrollment (RAiSE) Committee, supporting future physicians from application to matriculation.

RAiSE is a national committee under the new structure of the Learner Access, Support, Opportunity, and Retention Group (LASOR), formerly the Group on Student Affairs (GSA).

“With the launch of Learner Access, Support, Opportunity, and Retention Group, RAiSE is well-positioned to serve and lead our admissions community of practice as it continues to evolve amidst an evolving legal landscape, applicant needs and challenges, and a continued desire to support all those who wish to pursue medical school,” Dr. Harrison wrote in a letter from the committee chair.

Dr. Harrison’s one-year appointment began on July 1. She completed her three-year chair tenure of the GSA Committee on Admissions in June, leading the group’s transition to the new AAMC affinity group structure.

As the chair of RAiSE, Dr. Harrison will lead the committee through the discussion of national and state issues impacting the admissions community and developing resources and development opportunities.

Dr. Harrison has served with the AAMC since 2010 at both the regional and national level. She serves as vice dean for admissions, student affairs, and alumni engagement at the College of Medicine.
