In a profile in the Columbia Basin Herald, Samaritan Healthcare CEO Alex Town highlighted the new hospital’s partnership with the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine and plans to establish a family medicine residency program in Moses Lake, Washington.
“To be able to provide that program here and bring doctors here to learn medicine, practice medicine,” Town told the newspaper. “It moves the organization to become a teaching institution, and it elevates the care we provide to this region.”
Samaritan and the WSU College of Medicine were awarded a highly competitive Rural Residency Planning and Development Program grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) last year to support the creation of the program.
The new family medicine residency will be the college’s third residency training program east of the Cascades, bringing more doctors to medically underserved communities.
