Hans Van Dongen, PhD, professor and director of the WSU Sleep and Performance Research Center, appeared on the Florida Institute for Human & Machine Cognition’s (IHMC) STEM-Talk podcast. In Episode 175, Van Dongen discussed how fatigue and sleep loss lead to cognitive deficits.
“If you don’t sleep enough, you will suffer consequences in terms of cognitive performance. You will be less able to do a variety of things with your brain,” Van Dongen told the hosts. “But also, we have now come to the conclusion that it’s not just brain functioning that’s changing, but it’s also what happens to your body. So we know there’s disregulation of all kinds of organs and tissues and systems.”
