A recent episode of Health Matters on the PBS station KSPS featured Vice Chair for Surgery Anjali Kumar, MD, MPH, FACS, FASCRS, discussing the importance of colorectal cancer screening as rates of the disease rise in younger adults.
Dr. Kumar is a practicing colorectal cancer surgeon and researcher who has spearheaded outreach initiatives to improve access to screening services in Washington, particularly for underserved populations such as migrant farm workers.
Her research has shown that race and distance from endoscopy services are associated with worse colorectal cancer outcomes in Washington.
