About the Speaker

Dr. Karmy-Jones graduated from the University of Alberta in 1983. After a 1-year rotating internship, he completed General Surgery residency at George Washington University (194-1990) and a trauma/critical care residency at MedStar (1990-91), following which he completed cardiovascular and thoracic residency at the University of Alberta (1991-94). After three years as an attending surgeon at Henry Ford Hospital (Detroit, trauma/ACS/ICU and thoracic surgery), he moved to Harborview/UW, where he was an associate professor of surgery (thoracic/trauma/ACS/critical care). While there, he did a fellowship in interventional radiology. Since 2006, he has been practicing in Vancouver, Washington, initially in vascular, thoracic, and trauma surgery, but as he reaches the end of his career, he is focused on vascular surgery. He is boarded in general surgery (Canada and USA), critical care (USA), thoracic and Cardiac surgery (Canada), and cardiothoracic surgery (USA). He strives to keep up with his wife (who has a PhD in cell biology and was on the Canadian Olympic team for heptathlon) and three children.
