The Office of the Dean provides executive oversight and strategic vision for all College of Medicine operations, including educational, research, and clinical initiatives.
In collaboration with the Dean’s Executive Cabinet, the dean oversees the college’s various departments, offices, and units and liaisons with university leadership as well as our external partners.
Academic Leadership
In coordination with the Office of Educational Affairs and the Office of Clinical Affairs, the Office of the Dean oversees educational programming and ensures compliance with accreditation standards for our undergraduate medical education (UME), graduate medical education (GME), continuing medical education (CME), and other programs.
Budgeting and Financial Management
To ensure funding is dedicated to our strategic priorities, the dean works closely with Business & Finance Services to steward the financial resources of the college and advocates for the college’s needs to university and state leaders.
College Infrastructure
The Office of the Dean works to strengthen college infrastructure at WSU Spokane and the regional medical campuses through budget proposals, capital campaigns, and other philanthropic efforts led by our Advancement office.
External Liaison
The dean develops and maintains meaningful relationships with our community partners and external stakeholders state-wide, including clinical affiliates, donors, alumni, and legislative and accrediting bodies, and works to enhance the standing of the college among peers and relevant constituencies.
Internal Engagement
To create an inclusive environment and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement, the dean and members of cabinet engage in dialogue with the college community and consider feedback from faculty, staff, students, and clinical partners.
Personnel Support
The Office of the Dean supports the recruitment, retention, and professional success of college faculty, staff, preceptors, and administrators through the Office of Leadership Education and Development and the Office for Faculty Affairs and Continuing Professional Development.
Strategic Planning
The dean leads the college’s strategic planning process in coordination with the Office of Strategic Management, ensuring the organization has an actionable plan to achieve its mission and vision and mechanisms to measure progress.
Student Support
In conjunction with the Office of Student Experience, the dean supports student success and serves as a final arbiter for treatment and conduct concerns.
