College members publish language accommodation study for rural populations in the Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health

Fourth-year medical student Aivi Tran and Ken Roberts, PhD, professor and chair of  the Department of Translational Medicine and Physiology, published the paper “Language Accommodations for Limited English Proficient Patients in Rural Health Care.”

The study looks at how hospitals and clinics across Washington State meet the needs of their patients with limited English proficiency. Aivi conducted a survey study of hospitals, clinics, and communities across the state, inquiring about how language needs are met and the barriers rural healthcare providers face in meeting language accommodation needs.
