The WSU MD Class of 2024 celebrated a 100% match rate on Match Day on March 15, 2024.

The last year was a productive and fulfilling year for the WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. As we launch into 2025, already working toward new and innovative ways to improve medical education and health care across Washington and beyond, we want to take a moment to celebrate the work our faculty, staff, and students did in 2024.

WSU College of Medicine Featured on PBS Crosscut

The College of Medicine and some of its medical students and faculty were featured in a story by PBS Crosscut, a northwest based non-profit news organization. The article and an accompanying video highlight the college’s mission to train more health care providers to serve in rural and medically underserved regions across Washington state. (January 2024)

First MD Graduates Fulfill Mission to Serve Washington Communities as Doctors

Most of the College of Medicine’s inaugural class of doctors chose to practice in Washington or were considering doing so as they completed their post-graduate training in residency programs across the country. (August 2024)

CIPHERS Seed Grant Funding Leads to Development of Bilingual Physicians Project

A clinical professor is using awarded grant funding to improve Chinese language and cultural competency in clinical settings. (January 2024)

Filling Local and Nationwide Health Care Needs

The College of Medicine matched 100% of its fourth-year medical students into residency programs on or before Match Day 2024. The college also welcomed 23 new resident physicians into its three residency programs across Washington, including the first class of residents in the new Pediatric Residency Program in Spokane. New IREACH Leadership Aim to Deepen Community Partnerships, Foster WSU Collaborations

Amanda Boyd, PhD, and Denise Dillard, PhD, assumed leadership of the Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH) following the retirement of Founding Director Dedra Buchwald, MD. (May 2024)

To fill an increasingly important need, the college welcomed a new assistant dean for student and resident research. Olivia Coiado, PhD, is working to develop more robust research opportunities and support for learners. (July 2024)

MD Students Present at Orthopedic Research Symposium

Three medical students presented research at the 2024 Medical Student Orthopedic Research Symposium. Three College of Medicine Faculty Awarded WSU Seed Grant Funding

College of Medicine researchers won three of nine 2024 New Faculty Seed Grants. The WSU Office of Research grant program supports research and scholarly or creative programs that lead to sustained professional development and external funding for junior faculty. (May 2024)
