New Expert-designed Pain Management Modules Available to Enhance Student Learning

Doctors and patients sit and talk at the table near the window in a hospital.

Free interactive modules designed to teach evidence-based and person-centered approaches to pain management and substance use to health professions students are now live and can be added assignments.

The four modules were developed by an interprofessional team of WSU Health Sciences faculty, supported by a grant from the Washington State Health Care Authority, with the goal to improve population health and reduce substance use harms by fostering a well-prepared health care workforce.

Students will gain invaluable knowledge and skills in managing complex patient scenarios through the following web-based asynchronous modules, which include specific learning objectives and feature videos of clinical interactions:

  • Module 1: Introduction to Pain Management Best Practices
  • Module 2: Assessment and Treatment of Pain
  • Module 3: Risk Assessment and Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder
  • Module 4: Navigating Complex Pain Management Scenarios using Person-centered Trauma-informed Care

Designed to fit seamlessly into your curriculum, these modules offer students the flexibility to learn at their own pace while mastering key competencies in pain and substance use management.

The modules were designed to suit a wide range of health professions with no prerequisite courses required. Each module takes approximately 1 hour to complete.
