1.0 Policy Statement
It is the WSU College of Medicine policy that acceptance to the MD program will be rescinded when an applicant commits to another medical school in accordance with the AAMC Application and Acceptance Protocols.
2.0 Definitions
American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC)
Non-profit organization for MD medical schools.
American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS)
AMCAS is the national application service to MD programs under the AAMC umbrella.
AAMC Application and Acceptance Protocols
These are national guidelines to help ensure that all MD applicants receive timely notification about the application outcome, share expected deadlines for holding multiple offers, and take into consideration whether an applicant has already matriculated to another medical school when considering an acceptance of that applicant.
Choose Your Medical School (CYMS)
CYMS is a service within AMCAS that allows applicants who have been accepted to one or more MD schools to communicate their intentions to attend that school.
Commit to Enroll (CTE)
CTE is an option within CYMS system that opens on April 30 (or the next business day). This selection implies that the applicant is fully committing to that medical school and has withdrawn other acceptance and waitlists.
Plan to Enroll (PTE)
PTE is an option within the CYMS system that opens on February 19 (or the next business day). This selection implies that the applicant is strongly considering attending the selected medical school, though they may be holding other acceptances or remaining on waitlists.

4.0 Procedures
The AAMC Application and Acceptance Protocols provide an expectation that applicants do not hold more than one acceptance per cycle after April 30. Applicants may receive an offer from the waitlist past this time but would need to decide which offer they are going to keep and which they will decline.
Accepted Applicants
Applicants’ CTE decisions are made known to medical school admissions officers on May 2. If an accepted applicant in the college’s incoming class chooses PTE or CTE for another medical school (implying they are holding on to multiple acceptances) after April 30 and has not communicated a withdrawal to the WSU College of Medicine, their offer of acceptance will be rescinded on June 1 (if accepted prior to this time). If an applicant is accepted to the College after June 1 and thereafter chooses PTE or CTE to another medical school, their offer will be rescinded the next business day if a withdrawal is not initiated by the accepted applicant.
Waitlisted Applicants
If a waitlisted applicant chooses CTE for another medical school after April 30 and has not communicated a withdrawal to the College, their application will be administratively withdrawn on June 1. If the applicant chooses CTE for another medical school after June 1, their application will be administratively withdrawn the next business day if a withdrawal is not initiated by the waitlisted applicant.
The Protocols also encourage medical schools to consider whether an applicant has matriculated to another medical school before making an offer as an acceptance that might leave an unfilled position in the other medical school’s class. Therefore, waitlisted applicants who have matriculated to another medical school will be withdrawn from further consideration at the College.
