MD students are classified as having full-time enrollment status based on the following credit loads:
- Fall Term: 10+ credits
- Winter Term: 10+ credits
- Spring Term: 10+ credits
- * Graduating Spring Term: 5+ credits
- Summer Term: 5+ credits
- *Summer Term is optional between MS1 & MS2 years
The MD program is built based on full-time enrollment. MD tuition is charged per term, not per credit.
To avoid disbursement delays in financial aid, students are typically registered for coursework approximately three weeks before the start of each term. Term dates can be found here.
Year 4 is the only year with an option for less than full-time status; though to graduate on time, students will need to work carefully with their regional campus team for the appropriate number of credits throughout Year 4. If students are planning to be less than full-time, it will be important to connect with the University’s financial aid office and the College of Medicine Financial Educator as there will be financial implications.
WSU has created a resource page to help students learn more about the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the impact it may have on their financial aid needs.
MD Degree Completion
MD Degrees are conferred twice a year: Spring (May) and Fall (December).
Student Affairs will communicate with MS4 students about the various steps of completing the MD degree as each of the degree conferral periods approaches.
The College of Medicine has an annual Commencement each May. MS4 students anticipating a Spring graduation will be invited, along with any MS4s who completed their requirements in the previous Fall or Winter terms.
