Henry Mroch, MD, FACP, FASN
Professor of Medicine
Henry Mroch, MD, is among the founding faculty members of the WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. He was involved in the early development of the Renal-Urinary Systems course for pre-clinical medical students, which he still teaches alongside third- and fourth-year students during clinical rotations. He is a member of the Admissions Committee and has served in Clinical Coaching. Dr. Mroch earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and MD degree with Honors from the University of California, Irvine, completed his residency at Providence Internal Medicine Spokane, and completed his fellowship training in Nephrology at the University of Washington. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. Having practiced medicine in Spokane and Eastern Washington since 1998, he developed a deep awareness of the statewide physician workforce shortage and the unmet healthcare needs in rural, Tribal, and underserved communities throughout Washington. Caring for patients and advancing medical education remain the cornerstones of his professional career.

MD Student Declaration
I promise, to the best of my ability, to practice medicine with compassion and thoughtfulness. I recognize that membership within this profession comes with privileges, responsibilities and ethical duties.
I will value the discoveries of the physicians, scientists, teachers, and all colleagues upon whose shoulders I stand and will impart my knowledge to others. I will recognize the limits of my own understanding and diligently keep abreast of advances in medicine. I will collaborate with other physicians and colleagues.
I will endeavor to discover and understand my own biases. In acknowledging that all persons are entitled to nondiscriminatory access to medical care, I recognize that health is a human right. I pledge to be an advocate for those in need.
I will remember that medicine has the power to both heal and to harm. In my practice of medicine, I will place patient interests before my own. I will respect the privacy, individuality, and autonomy of patients, and I vow to treat patients and carry out research on human beings only with appropriately informed consent.
I will follow my conscience, even when doing so creates hardship. I will recognize the importance of my own well-being to the relationship between physician and patient, caring for myself as I do for those around me. I will safeguard the health of each patient and the health of the population.
I make this declaration on my honor and in front of my family, friends, classmates, and teachers, to uphold as a member of this profession.
The Elson S. Floyd Legacy
Elson S. Floyd, PhD, was the 10th president of Washington State University, serving from May 21, 2007, until his passing on June 20, 2015.
During his tenure, Floyd garnered bipartisan support in the Washington State Legislature to approve WSU to start a medical school.
Recognized for his transformative and visionary leadership, Floyd’s pursuit to create WSU’s own separately accredited, four-year medical school led to the university naming the medical school the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.
