Internal Medicine Residency Program–Everett

The WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine’s community-based internal medicine residency prepares highly skilled and well-rounded general internists to care for Washington’s rural and underserved communities. With multiple training facilities, our residency program offers an unparalleled breadth of patient populations and clinical care. Our residents train in an evolving value-based care model, focusing on care coordination, patient outcomes, caregiver satisfaction, and optimized health care utilization.

Mission

To develop, recruit, and retain compassionate, dedicated, and well-rounded general internists suited to care for our rural and underserved communities throughout the state of Washington.

The WSU Internal Medicine Residency Program–Everett is an innovative catalyst for future internal medicine physicians. We are a group of dedicated clinician educators united by a common purpose: to develop, recruit and retain internists to serve communities in Washington state. The main inpatient clinical training site, Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, is uniquely positioned in an urban center with close access to many maritime and mountain rural and underserved communities in Washington.

During the second and third years, residents rotate in both inpatient and outpatient settings throughout western Washington. These opportunities in community-based and critical access hospitals provide emergency, basic, and chronic disease management services to remote populations of Washington. They are essential to the health, care, and viability of our rural and underserved communities. Collaborating with these communities is central to our aim of improving access to high value care and well-trained general internists.

Our program prepares residents for the future of health care delivery through our distinctive training model. Residents spend a portion of their training each year integrated into an evolving value-based model of care focusing on care coordination, patient outcomes, caregiver satisfaction, and optimized health care for high-risk populations. We seek passionate and motivated applicants committed to improving community health—particularly those with an innovative spirit who will be engaged in their learning at Washington State University.  Our graduates excel as physicians and lead with purpose—driving lasting impact and advancing access to quality health care in the communities they serve.
